PROJECT REFLECT is a design lab focused on developing meaningful experiences that provide space for joy.
Joy, as defined by the Oxford Companion to Emotion and the Affective Sciences, “involves a state of positive affect, in which one experiences feelings of freedom, safety, and ease.”
How might experiences change if they were designed to provoke joy? How might policies and institutions be different if we aspired towards a joyful society? How might we see those for whom we are designing for differently if we understood their joy?
What could become of the world if we centered joy when designing our systems?
Project Reflect is working with communities to answer these questions.
Why is reflect part of our name? Reflection provides the time and space for intentional understanding. When we take the time to reflect on our days, our lives, our stories, we are taking the time to build an understanding of who we are and how we relate to others. This awareness is powerful and is the first step towards creating space for joy. Once space for joy is created, we use reflection to digest the experience as well as a means to reflect outwards with storytelling and reciprocity. At Project Reflect, joy is what we seek, and we find it through moments of reflection.
